X-Linked Dominant Manic-Depressive Illness: Linkage with Xg Blood Group, Red-Green Color Blindness, and Vitamin B12 Deficiency
نویسنده
چکیده
Some of the literature describing X-linked dominant manic-depressive illness is reviewed. A family with manic-depressive illness, red green color blindness, Xg blood group, and vitamin B12 deficiency, all located on the same X chromosome through four generations, is described. In the family studied the gene for manicdepressive illness and the gene for vitamin B-12 deficiency occupy the same locus, and it is proposed that the X-linked manic-depressive illness is very much associated with an X-linked metabolic disturbance resulting in vitamin B-12 deficiency. The data very much support previous findings that manic-depressive illness can be sex-linked dominant and that bipolar and unipolar illness within the same family are genetically related and express the same genotype.

Evidence of a predisposing locus to bipolar disorder on Xq24-q27.1 in an extended Finnish pedigree.
An X-chromosomal predisposing locus to manic-depressive illness has been suggested since 1969 on the basis of the cosegregation of this trait in some families with phenotypic markers, such as color blindness, the glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, and the coagulation factor IX deficiency. However, the conclusive evidence and the exact location of the putative X-chromosomal locus have...

In view of the evidence that some abnormality of the metabolism of vitamin B12 is present in tobacco amblyopia (Callender and Denborough, I957; Heaton, McCormick, and Freeman, I958; Chisholm, Bronte-Stewart, and Foulds, I967), it was thought possible that absorption of the vitamin might be reduced in patients with the disease. The patients studied were male pipe smokers with bilateral acquired ...

This study presented a mini review on folic acid deficiency and recommendations for its supplementation in thalassemia intermedia (TI). TI is a clinical condition which lies between thalassemia major and thalassemia minor. Although TI patients may not need regular blood transfusion, precise diagnosis and management are critical for the prevention of clinical complications and quality of life im...

Background and Purpose: Çolor blindness is a kind of vision disorder, with the estimated prevalence of 0-8% , particularly 2.3-4% in females. This disease has sex linkage and transmited by X Çhromosome, Çonsequently is more observed in females. Due to much difference in the prevalence and the lack of it’s study in the region, this study was conducted in order to determine the prevalence of co...
